did you know, it's already beyond the middle of august? spring seems like a dream, and summer a daze. soon, school will start, the leaves will turn and i will begin the process of unpacking our winter clothes and taking our corduroy comforter to the cleaners. it's a wistful feeling, august being a bittersweet adieu to summer.
the cicadas are in full force, a bickering noise that i never noticed before but now hear keenly, as tho they are reminding me of the fleeting warm moments in the sunlight. we've been sleeping with the windows open, to beckon the night breeze. it's a bit indulgent, looking ahead to the season of transition whilst in the midst of summer, a season that depending on mother nature's mood could bleed into autumn.
nonplussed, i continue in this thought process, starting in the kitchen. the oven has been on more often now, the air laced with sugar and spice and all things nice. we've spent these last months making use of the vitamix for breakfast smoothies. the berries have been picked, apples will soon become jewels to harvest. until then, i've turned to a few baked goods. i assemble the ingredients sunday night, soaking grains as needed, and i bake them fresh first thing monday morning. the goal is for us to have something to nibble on while we sit down to our respective desks, prepare for our day. it's a sweet beginning, one that makes the turning of the season easier.

what a lovely loaf! looks fantastic!
ReplyDeletethank you.
DeleteWhat perfect little loaves! You know I'm a fan of chocolate for breakfast :).
ReplyDeletei'm a chocolate fan for any meal of the day! :)
DeleteFirst off, you have a corduroy comforter? Awesome. (And now I want one.)
ReplyDeleteSecond, this loaf looks fantastic. Anything with chocolate chips is pretty epic in my world, but I'm also loving the coconut oil in there. Because coconut and chocolate love each other.
And finally, the instruction to "go to bed," is about the best addition to a recipe procedure I've ever seen.
overstock.com. get on it girl.
Deletethe original recipe called for coconut butter and tho i have a recipe to make it i wasn't about to make it to make this loaf. i am pleased to say that it's all interchangeable.
Wow! This looks great! I'll definitely try your version too :)
ReplyDeletethank you for posting the original recipe.
DeleteI second the comment about your corduroy comforter...I want one too. August is a sad little thing, she takes everyone by surprise and then feels bad about doing so.
ReplyDeleteThis adorable coconut-infused chocolate chip loaf would cheer her up. It would certainly cheer me up after lamenting the passing of summer. (Where on earth did it go? Memorial day had to have been only last month!)
overstock.com. i bought this comforter years ago and it's held up quite well.
Deletewith the passing of summer, i take comfort in baked chocolate goods, and obviously, my comforter. :)
Oh, that heavenly, hot, cicada sound. Late summer means lemonade and earlier sunsets, tomato and mozzarella sandwiches, barefeet... and chocolate chip loaves. (With perfect chocolate chips.)
ReplyDeletei totally agree with you about what late summer means. it's kinda sweet but sad.
DeleteYou make me want to get a mini loaf pan and make this chocolate chip loaf! I know my children will thank you for this recipe. :-) I'd need this everyday to boost up my energy to run after my kids! Gorgeous pictures too, Lan! Beautiful.
ReplyDeletethanks Nami. treat yourself. anything miniature is adorable and a must-have!
DeleteLooks and sounds divine....I am so crazy about chocolate and this recipe reminds me that I havent tried the banana bread recipe yet. Also I've got to start uploading photos of the food I'm sampling and the cooking I have attempted so far. Fish is on the menu this weekend so am hoping to put those up soon. I hear fall is in the air on the East Coast and I'm really missing that little nip at the end of summer. It is sweltering over here. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeletevinita, i hope you are enjoying your time in india, don't worry about the weather here, focus on having fun there!
DeleteAs always, I peek in, see all of these things I need to bake... now.. and then something you write just stops me cold. This time it was your line about the haze of spring and the blur of summer. Such a complicated year for me, bittersweet, where details leave vague smells like burned popcorn. Anyway, chocolate for breakfast is a wonderful trick. Sometimes it's just that touch of energy I need. Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeletejeff, you are so thoughtful with your comments. thanks for continuing to visit.
DeleteThis looks and sounds amazing! I love chocolate chip cake so I'd imagine this loaf is just as good!
