i heart avocado

no seriously. i love the hell out of this fruit/vegetable. i went to two stores yesterday. i bought four avocados at Giant, they were on sale, 2 for $3. after soccer, i stopped of at H-mart for some asian groceries and they had avocados on sale, $1.39 each. i bought two. what? i sweat them. plus, now that i can't chew properly, they're soft so i can mash them.

speaking of not chewing properly. it sucks. my teeth don't hurt as badly as before but the wires are poking my mouth so i have wax covering them. when i smile, i look like have clearish white boogers chillin in my mouth. it's highly attractive. it also took me about 30 minutes to floss last night. i don't want rotten but straight teeth so i vow to floss at least once a day. this is going to eat into my crafting or sleeping time. i'm super psyched.

the whole not eating properly due to my teeth hurting, as well as the brackets that are keeping my jaw from closing entirely blow but even if all this wasn't going on, i'd still hawk what goes into my mouth. stuff gets stuck between the wires and teeth and it's a bitch to clean. the seeds from strawberries, herbs like cilantro or basil, coconut from the coconut juices i like to drink. even black pepper flakes!

anyway, about what i've been eating. i made myself a banana/strawberry yoghurt smoothie yesterday for a snack before my soccer game. it was delish. and would've been healthy had i not added a packet of sugar in it. i liked it so much, i made one for breakfast this morning. for dinner last night, i made Cold Cucumber and Avocado Soup. it was effing awesome, if i do say so myself. i read a few recipes online but when i was at the market, i realized i didn't bring any of them home with me so i winged it. you'll need:

  • an english cucumber (less waxy skin and i think tastes better than their american kind)
  • avocado
  • cilantro
  • lime juice
  • cream (i used 2% milk)
  • chicken broth
  • thyme

mind you, i did not measure anything, i put in as many cucumber slices as i wanted and two medium sized avocados in. i had maybe a handful of cilantro and a teaspoon of thyme. i put equal parts chicken broth and milk, to make the mashing easy, as well as make the consistency less like guacamole and more like soup. i used a hand blender because i don't have a traditional blender. it came out awesome. the concoction was smooth with just a touch of lime which i added right at the end, and creamy with just a hint of the cilantro and certain bites had the nice mix of lemony thyme.

i'll probably play around with this recipe, add a few touches here and there, maybe other colors. for now the texture is going to have to be smooth but eventually i may add tomatoes or crab meat. thankfully, avocado is good for you!
